LAHORE: Senior Vice President of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Maryam Nawaz met former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and said that leaders like him are the “pride” of Muslim League (N) and she wants to play her role in development. JEE News reported Friday.
Party sources told JEE News that the meeting dispelled the impression that Abbasi did not accept Maryam as the senior vice-president of the party.
The former prime minister stepped down from the top post after his promotion last month, saying he stepped down to give the new leader “space” to operate independently.
Sources say that Maryam held a detailed discussion with Abbasi and assured her that the party and its leadership have full confidence in her.
“I am your sister; I want to contribute to the development of the party and the country under your guidance,” sources quoted Maryam as saying.
He told Abbasi that everyone will work together for the party under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif. Maryam said that leaders like you are the pride of the party and your eternal sacrifices cannot be forgotten.
In response, Abbasi told the chief organizer of the party that he had dedicated everything to the PML-N. He said that Nawaz Sharif is my leader while Shahbaz Sharif’s guidance has always been with me, adding that he loves Nawaz and that is why he is a part of PML-N.
He clarified that he has not distanced himself from the party and is still in touch with the PML-N supremo and other party leaders.
Muslim League-N will not contest the by-elections.
Meanwhile, Abbasi also announced that the Muslim League (N) will not participate in the upcoming NA by-elections as per the decision of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
He expressed these views while talking to the media at the Model Town office where he had come to meet Maryam, chief organizer of Muslim League-N.
