KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly hastily passed two resolutions on Friday, but surprisingly, most of the lawmakers, including the treasury members, were unaware of the purpose of the resolutions.
As the meeting began, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla stood up and requested Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani to allow him to move two resolutions that were not part of the agenda.
Opposition MPs from Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) expressed concern as copies of the resolutions were not shared with them as per parliamentary procedure. were done.
“We will give you the copies. Let me move the resolutions,” Chawla said and requested the speaker to adjourn the agenda and take up the resolutions, which he allowed. Soon after the minister moved the resolution, the House unanimously passed it amid protests by opposition members.
Speaking to JEE News, PTI MPA Khurram Sher Zaman said that even after the meeting, the minister did not provide copies of the resolutions and said: “We all should read it in the paper tomorrow.”
Zaman further said, “The minister read it quickly once on the floor of the House, but since the language of the resolutions drafted in English was not correct, we could not understand it.” He added that the mover should have at least informed the House of the objectives of the resolutions.
Not only the opposition MPAs but also the Treasury legislators who voted in favor of the resolutions had some idea of the objectives. “I don’t know its motive, but I supported it because it was proposed by our government.
