ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday summoned former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan for investigation in the £190 million NCA scam.
NAB Rawalpindi joint investigation team will interrogate the PTI chief.
According to sources, a questionnaire has also been sent to Imran.
NAB had arrested Imran from Islamabad High Court premises on May 9 in the NCA scam.
According to sources, this case is actually against Imran Khan and other public officials for abuse of power, illegal acquisition of financial benefits and criminal violation in recovery of crime money received from UK’s National Crime Agency.
Sources say that the illegal acquisition of land for Al-Qadir University and other financial benefits received by the accused are also part of the investigation.
NAB sources said that Imran Khan and former SAPM Shahzad Akbar misled their cabinet by hiding the facts/documents related to the settlement agreement.
Finally, the Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday summoned PTI Chairman Imran Khan to appear in person on May 23 in a case of contempt of the Commission and the Chief Election Commissioner. During the hearing of the case against Imran and other senior PTI leaders Fawad Chaudhry and Asad Umar by the four-member ECP Commission headed by ECP member from Sindh Nisar Durrani, commission member from Balochistan Shah Mohammad Jatoi. Asked why not? Referring to the last chance given to the PTI Chairman on the last hearing on Imran’s bailable arrest warrant, he asked that where is Imran Khan? On this, Imran’s assistant counsel told the commission that the PTI chief has to appear in the Lahore High Court today. Imran’s counsel will appear and give arguments, the assistant counsel informed the forum, upon which ECP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa member Justice (retd) Ikramullah Khan told him to contact counsel Faisal Chaudhry and tell him that he When will you come? Later, the ECP issued summons to Imran and other PTI leaders.
PTI’s lawyer Anwar Mansoor Khan asked the commission to allow the hearing of the Sindh High Court to be completed as the objections of the commission are being heard in the Sindh High Court. Member Sindh Assembly Nisar Durrani asked the lawyer to argue the objections of Asad Umar as the High Court did not stop him from proceeding. Mirza Asif Abbas, a lawyer representing the commission, said that the Lahore High Court has ordered the submission of the case file by May 23. The commission had issued contempt of court notices to the PTI chairman and two other party leaders last year. were In his speeches, remarks and interviews, he openly spoke against the constitutional body as well as its Chief Election Commissioner.
Apart from this, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja presided over the commission meeting here which was attended by ECP members and senior officers. It was informed that Quetta is the only district where municipal elections could not be held so far due to non-designation of towns by the government. The commission was informed about the Balochistan High Court’s order on 23 October 2022 to issue notification to the Secretary Local Government, Balochistan to create towns in Quetta district under the Balochistan Local Government Act. However, the meeting was told that the necessary documents and relevant notifications required for the delimitation of constituencies were not provided to the ECP despite the lapse of five months due to which the process of delimitation and holding of elections was not possible. The commission has completed the delimitation of Quetta twice, but apparently due to the lack of interest of the provincial government, the elections could not be held.
Taking notice of the matter, the commission summoned the Chief Secretary Balochistan on May 24, to hear the case, ensure the conduct of constituencies and elections.
