‘Not a mistake’: PPP defends extension of General (R) Bajwa.

ISLAMABAD: Secretary General of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Nayar Hussain Bukhari defended the decision regarding expansion during the previous government of former Army Chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Bukhari said that the decision to extend the tenure of General (retd) Bajwa by three years after the completion of his tenure in 2019 was not a mistake, declaring that it was done in view of the prevailing situation in the country. was

The secretary general’s comments came in a statement on Sunday. Bukhari said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan directly blamed the former army chief.

He said that if Imran Khan was a powerless prime minister because of General (R) Bajwa, then he should have had the courage to dismiss him.

Bukhari said that the crutch-addicted Khans are still waiting for some guarantees regarding the dissolution of the assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He added that as the “leader of the lie brigade”, Khan describes General (retd) Bajwa as a conspirator while his ally Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi says the former COAS made him the PTI chief. Sent to He said that now the people can judge for themselves who is speaking the truth.

Extension
General (retd) Bajwa was scheduled to retire on November 29, 2019 at the end of his term, but the then Prime Minister Imran Khan extended his tenure by three years on August 19, 2019.

On November 28, 2019, the Supreme Court suspended the government order saying that there is no law to extend the tenure of the Army Chief.

However, the Supreme Court granted a six-month extension to General Bajwa following an assurance from the government that Parliament would legislate for the extension/re-appointment of the Army Chief within six months.

General Bajwa’s tenure extension notification was finally issued on 28 January 2020, when Parliament passed a law to resolve the issue of Army Chief’s tenure extension.
