ISLAMABAD: The National Security Committee (NSC) meeting on Friday decided to increase the heat on militancy with relentless counter and pre-emptive measures to neutralize the threats in the country in any form.

In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office said that the participants of the NSC expressed a clear view that Pakistan’s national interests will not be compromised and no one will be allowed to undermine national security.

The Prime Minister chaired the NSC meeting, which was attended by service chiefs, intelligence chiefs and federal ministers, the statement said.

The meetings came after the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) ended a ceasefire with Islamabad and stepped up attacks on security forces, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

The statement said that during the meeting, the participants reviewed the economic and security situation of the country.

The government and state institutions vowed that the fundamental interests of Pakistan’s existence, security and development would be protected with bravery and long-term strategy. “Unambiguous views were expressed to defend the country’s national interests and not allow anyone to undermine the key concept of national security.”

The participants of the meeting paid tribute to the great sacrifices of the martyrs and expressed their condolences to their families.

It was expressed in the meeting that terrorists are enemies of Pakistan and the whole nation is united on the single narrative of standing against terrorism.

“Those challenging the state’s writ will be given a strong response,” the statement said.

The NSC meeting will continue on Monday, January 2, in which further decisions will be taken in the light of the joint proposals in today’s huddle.

Series of terrorist attacks
Over the past few weeks, Pakistan has seen a fresh wave of terrorism with recent incidents in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

On Wednesday, Pakistan’s top military officers vowed to root out terrorism “without discrimination” as the country grapples with a fresh wave of insurgency, which has left scores of soldiers dead and scores injured.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also reiterated his resolve to root out the menace of terrorism by utilizing all available resources.

The Prime Minister said that he will take all possible measures to control all types of terrorism in the country.

Five soldiers were martyred and more than a dozen were injured in seven separate explosions in the districts of Pakistan’s southwestern province.

Earlier this month, militants also seized a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) compound in KPK’s Bannu area, which was cleared three days later by Pakistan Army troops. However, four soldiers lost their lives and 10 were injured.
