Rawalpindi: Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir in a meeting with acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi emphasized the need to increase cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan to effectively deal with the common challenges of terrorism and extremism. .

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement issued today that the Army Chief led a tripartite delegation of the Taliban-led administration during his four-day visit to Pakistan after meeting the Afghan minister. For negotiations and meetings. with the authorities in Islamabad.

During their meeting, the two dignitaries discussed issues of mutual interest including regional security, border management, and formalization of bilateral security mechanisms to improve the existing security environment, the army’s media wing said.

The ISPR statement said that General Munir reiterated the need for full support and commitment from the Afghan Interim Government in matters of mutual interest.

Meanwhile, FM Muttaqi appreciated Pakistan’s traditional support to the people of Afghanistan and recognized the important role Pakistan is playing in facilitating peace and development in Afghanistan.

According to ISPR, he also expressed his willingness to work with Pakistan to promote regional stability and prosperity.

Both the COAS and the Afghan Minister agreed on the importance of maintaining regular contacts to strengthen bilateral ties and address issues of common concern.

General Munir, as mentioned by the army’s media wing, reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to a stable, peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the Chinese minister stressed the importance of the long-standing strategic relationship between the brotherly countries and expressed satisfaction over the progress on the CPEC and reiterated China’s commitment to its timely completion.

Both the Army Chief and the FM Gang discussed the evolving security situation in the region.
