Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Thursday said his party opposes early and delayed general elections, calling for snap polls and the imposition of a long-term caretaker government.

Addressing a press conference after the meeting of the People’s Party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) in Lahore, Bilawal said that his party will prepare a code of conduct for all political parties.

The foreign minister said that his party will contact all the ruling and opposition parties in this regard.

Reacting to Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi’s statement in which he refused to comply with Governor Balighur Rehman’s orders to take the vote of confidence and termed the instructions as “illegal”, the PPP leader said. If God wants, then vote of confidence has to be taken. To hold the highest provincial office.

Criticizing the present government in Punjab, the foreign minister said that the real estate mafia has been given a ‘free hand’ in the province.

The PPP chairman alleged that in the past Usman Buzdar used to do corruption for Gogi and now Parvaiz Elahi is playing the same role.

Bilawal also claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan knows very well that his party cannot form its government without the support of the establishment.

Imran Khan knows that he cannot come to power without the help of the establishment. At this stage of life he should become a democratic man.

The PPP chairman also hit back at the PTI for online criticism of his recent visit to flood-affected families in Sindh. “We went there for the children, not politics. The children were happy to meet us.”

Last month, the foreign minister ruled out the possibility of early elections, saying that for the survival of democracy, assemblies must complete their terms.

Speaking during an interview, Bilawal said that PTI chairman’s demand for early elections was a political agenda.

He said the coalition parties were working together to resolve the issues, adding that the previous government passed on the worsening economy to the current government.

The foreign minister said that the failed foreign policy of the previous government has isolated us from the whole world. He added that the current government is looking for solutions to internal problems and consensus at the international level.

Although coalition parties have periodically rejected the call for early elections, the PTI has insisted that the only solution to the country’s ongoing crisis is to hold snap polls.

As a result of the political crisis, the size and value of Pakistan’s stock market has plummeted, the currency has hit record lows, foreign exchange reserves have fallen to an eight-year low, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) F)’s program has also been damaged. snag
