On the invitation of the Emir of Qatar, Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif will go to Doha on March 5-6, where he will participate in the 5th United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries.
The conference, to be held from March 5 to 9, will discuss measures to accelerate sustainable development in LDCs and help put them on the path to prosperity.
On Saturday, the Foreign Office spokesperson said in a press release that the prime minister will hold bilateral meetings and discussions with the participating leaders and heads of delegations on the sidelines of the conference in Doha.
At the conference, leaders will mobilize additional international aid initiatives and action in favor of LDCs and agree on a new partnership between LDCs and their development partners.
Pakistan is playing a leadership role on UN platforms to amplify the collective voice of the Global South to promote sustainable development globally.
During 2022, as the Chair of the Group of 77 and China, Pakistan actively supported the efforts of the LDC Chair and Qatar to achieve the Doha Program of Action for Least Developed Countries by consensus and UN ratification. to be adopted by General Assembly.
It added that “the Prime Minister’s participation in the conference will signify Pakistan’s support and solidarity with the less developed countries, in their quest for social development and economic prosperity.”
The spokesman added that Pakistan supports the restoration of global partnership based on effective means of implementation within the framework of South-South cooperation to achieve the 2030 Development Agenda of the United Nations and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
