Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke to Kenyan President Dr. William Ruto on the issue of killing of senior journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya.
The prime minister had a telephonic conversation with the Kenyan president on Monday during which the former prime minister thanked the latter for the support provided to the Pakistani investigation teams so far.
Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized that Pakistan attaches great importance to Sharif’s case, requesting Kenya’s further cooperation during the investigation to bring closure to the case for the family and the Pakistani people.
President Ruto assured the Prime Minister of his full support and cooperation in this matter.
During the conversation, the two leaders also discussed bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual interest.
Highlighting the importance of Pakistan in its relations with Africa, the Prime Minister expressed the strong desire of the nation to strengthen its historical relations with Kenya in all areas of cooperation.
The journalist’s murder has gained prominence in Pakistan and the government has sent a special Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to Kenya to gather facts about the gruesome murder.
Last week, the Supreme Court had asked the JIT to submit a complete fact-finding report on Sharif’s killing within a month and the hearing should be adjourned till March.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Atta Bandyal asked the investigation team to do what has to be done but get to the facts.
