Lahore: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) has decided to field candidates from all constituencies of the Punjab Assembly in the upcoming elections.
Sources say that in this regard, Maryam Nawaz, senior vice president of PMLN, called a meeting at the Model Town party office on Monday, in which Federal Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, PMLN Lahore President Saif Al Muloq Khokhar, General Secretary Khawaja Imran Nazir and others attended. Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Attaullah Tarar, Bilal Yasin and other former MLAs and ticket holders. According to sources, Maryam Nawaz contacted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over the telephone regarding the issue of tickets. The PMLN leader directed the party to field candidates for elections in all constituencies of the Punjab Assembly. The final candidates will be selected after the recommendations of the PMLN Parliamentary Board and the interviews of the candidates.
Sources say that Nawaz Sharif himself will head the parliamentary board and conduct interviews with the candidates. He said that party tickets will be given on merit in the Punjab Assembly elections and ideological workers will be given priority while giving party tickets. In the meeting, it was also decided to start preparations for the upcoming general elections. It was decided that local political scenario will be taken into consideration while issuing party tickets. It was decided to establish a special cell headed by Maryam Nawaz for the survey in all the constituencies of Punjab. The cell will also collect data related to past elections and performance of former parliamentarians. Similarly, the recently appointed youth coordinators were asked to enhance the party’s presence on social media platforms.
