ISLAMABAD: Two terrorism-related cases have been registered against PTI leadership including party chairman Imran Khan and secretary general Asad Umar and 100 other party workers for alleged violence during protests.
After the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) disqualified Khan and the PTI chairman’s decision not to remain a member of the National Assembly, protests broke out across the country.
These cases were registered at I-9 Police Station and Sajjani Police Station on the complaints of the Federal Government and Police respectively.
Ten offenses including sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act have been added to the case.
The First Information Report (FIR) filed at the Sajjani police station — which names Khan, Umar, and Ali Nawaz Awan — said the workers blocked the Srinagar highway following orders from the leadership.
It added that the workers pelted stones at the police and vandalized government property.
The complainant filed an FIR under Sections 109, 147, 149, 186, 188, 341, 353, 427, and 503 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 7 of the ATA.
Earlier, another case of terrorism was registered against local leadership of PTI in I Nain police station.
PTI leaders Aamir Mehmood Kayani, Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi, Faisal Javed Khan, Raja Rashid Hafeez, Umar Tanveer, Rashid Naseem Abbasi and Raja Majid were named in the case.
According to the FIR, PTI workers pelted stones on the police and FC personnel, injuring them.
The FIR states that the protesters tried to run away with the intention of killing the policemen.
It added that the protesters set fire to trees and tried to damage government property in Faizabad and nearby areas.
The FIR includes Sections 109, 148, 149, 186, 324, 353, 427, and 435 of the PPC, and Section 7 of the ATA.
A day ago, the ECP had disqualified former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the unanimous decision of the Tosha Khana reference and decided that the PTI chairman was no longer a member of the National Assembly.
The verdict said that criminal action will be taken against the PTI chairman for false statement.
The ECP said Imran Khan submitted a false affidavit and was found guilty of corruption under Article 63(1)(p).
Protests started across the country on this decision.
