ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the authorities to guarantee uninterrupted supply of gas to the citizens during the holy month of Ramadan, especially during Iftar and Suhoor hours.
The prime minister’s directives came after the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) on Thursday announced its decision to suspend supplies to captive power plants and industries citing a widening gap between gas supply and demand.
On Thursday, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in which he was given a detailed briefing regarding gas load shedding, low pressure, obstruction and load shedding in Karachi. The problem of gas loadshedding in Karachi was resolved on the instructions of the Prime Minister, the complaints of the citizens of Karachi were resolved in the meeting.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had taken strict notice of the issue being raised on the issue of gas loadshedding in Parliament two days ago. Addressing Parliament, Prime Minister Shehbaz assured members of the National Assembly that his government would address the problem of gas load-shedding, especially during Suhar and Iftar, as people fed up with inflation are filing complaints.
He emphasized on adopting a comprehensive strategy for smooth supply of gas to the citizens in Ramadan.
The authorities took measures on an emergency basis to end the gas loadshedding. The Prime Minister emphasized the need for a gas supply monitoring process with zero tolerance for negligence.
Due to widening gap between gas demand and supply, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) on Thursday announced its decision to suspend supply to captive power plants and industries.
The gas utility says that this decision has been taken in view of the low supply of gas. It said that the volume of gas in the pipelines has decreased due to the reduction in supply.
SSGC suspends gas supply
Despite the protests of the people of Karachi, the SSGC had yesterday suspended gas supply to the captive power plants and industries and said that the supply would be restored from 8 am today.
Since last week, hundreds of residents have protested against the suspension of gas supply.
The suspension of gas supply has made life difficult for people across the country, who find it difficult to cook, especially during Suhr and Iftar.
