ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday expressed happiness over the re-opening of Khunjerab Pass, saying it will help increase trade between Pakistan and China.
The Prime Minister’s Office media wing said in a press release that the Prime Minister welcomed the move to promote trade with iron brother China.
Shehbaz said that the reopening of the pass has removed a bottleneck that will speed up work on the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), adding that it was a great pleasure to restore the trade route between the two countries after three years. It’s a thing.
The Prime Minister said that the journey, which started back in November 2019, resumed in the year 2023 and pledged to move forward on the CPEC with double the speed compared to 2018.
He said that CPEC is a gift of development and prosperity that Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and the Chinese leadership have given to the region and the people.
He further said that the Chinese leadership’s love and support for the people of Pakistan is unforgettable.
The Prime Minister said that ‘foreign funded person’ has made CPEC controversial.
He also appreciated the concerned authorities and team members of both the countries for the restoration of trade and travel facilities.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) Senior Vice President and Chief Organizer Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday congratulated the leadership of China and Pakistan for reviving Pakistan-China trade after a gap of three years.
In a statement, he said that the opening of Khanjarab Pass, which was closed due to Covid-19, is an important development that will end the hardships of the people on both sides. The re-opening of Dara Khunjerab will help to end the hardships of the people on both sides.
He further said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Xi Jinping are strengthening Pakistan-China iron brotherhood.
