The Punjab government has asked the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to make tight security arrangements for today’s rally in the provincial capital, which will kick off the party’s election campaign.
On Tuesday, PTI had announced to start the election campaign from Lahore in a public meeting under the leadership of Imran Khan.
In view of the security uncertainty in the country, the Punjab Home Ministry has written to PTI leader Yasmin Rashid urging the party to tighten security for the election rally.
Citing security concerns, the interior ministry said another public gathering, the Aurat March, would be held in the city.
“Public gatherings are not appropriate amid the current security situation in the country,” the ministry said, requesting the PTI to ensure cooperation with law enforcement agencies (LEAs).
As the date of elections in Punjab approaches, Tehreek-e-Insaaf has announced the start of its election campaign under the leadership of party chief Imran Khan from today.
The election rally started from Zaman Park to Mall Road Underpass, FC College Underpass, Achhra, Ferozepur Road near Muslim Town Mor, Samanabad, LOS Chowk, Liton Road, MAO College, PMG Chowk. , passing through Government College and Central Model will end. The school will conclude at Data Darbar.
Khan will address a rally at the Data Darbar and announce his future plan. Senior PTI leaders including the newly elected President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi are also expected to participate in the rally.
