Senior Vice President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday said that the party will submit a detailed report of the talks with the ruling coalition in the Supreme Court today.

The development comes after talks between the government and the PTI ended on Tuesday after leaders from both sides failed to reach a consensus on the date of dissolution of assemblies and holding of general elections in the country.

After the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) initially postponed the elections in Punjab till October 8 due to lack of funds and lack of security, government officials after the Supreme Court intervened in the matter. Later, the Supreme Court suggested to the political parties that they should reach a consensus on conducting the elections simultaneously across the country or else the court will pronounce its decision.

‘More rounds of talks will remain meaningless’

Talking to a private channel, PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that he tried to take the matter forward in good faith, adding that Finance Minister Ishaq Dar admitted that the party had shown flexibility. .

He said that we showed flexibility for national consensus.

Qureshi revealed that the government has a three-point agenda which includes:

  • Elections should be held on the same date across the country
  • Elections should be held under caretaker government
  • The election results should be accepted by all parties.

The PTI leader further said that PTI’s position is clear that the elections should be held on May 14 as directed by the Supreme Court.

Qureshi, who a day earlier had accused Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of trying to sabotage the talks, reiterated that factions in the ruling coalition did everything possible to influence the talks.

Recalling the remarks and stance of Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Khawaja Asif and Javed Latif regarding Tehreek-e-Insaf and negotiations, Qureshi said that despite the attitudes and statements of these leaders, “we tried to bring the nation out of this chaotic situation.” can go”.

The former foreign minister revealed that the PTI delegation tried to understand the government’s approach and also resolved legal hurdles as per the constitution.

Hours after the meeting ended, sources revealed internal details of the talks, claiming the ruling coalition was ready to show more flexibility on the election date.

“Both the parties have agreed to continue talks after the report is submitted to the Supreme Court,” sources told JEE News, adding that talks could resume once the Supreme Court verdict is announced.
