Russian President Vladimir Putin described the armed uprising by Wagner’s mercenaries as a “stab in the back” and vowed to punish those who rebelled against the nation, JEE News reported.
During a televised address, he said that Wagner’s chief, Yevgeny Prigozhin, had “betrayed” Russia. He said that what we have faced is absolute treachery.
The Russian president added that all those who consciously stood on the path of treason, prepared armed rebellion and stood on the path of blackmail and terrorist methods, “are indispensable before the law and before our people.” will be punished.”
He described attempts by the Wagner military group to oust the country’s top officials as a “deadly threat” to Russia and urged the country to unite.
“Any internal turmoil is a deadly threat to our state and to us as a nation. It is a blow to Russia and our people,” Putin said in a televised address. The address added: “This war, when the fate of our people is being decided, requires the unity and unification of all forces.
Putin acknowledged a “difficult” situation unfolding in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don, where the Wagner mercenary group has taken control of key military posts in an attempt to oust senior Russian military officials.
Putin said in his address to the Russians that decisive steps will be taken to stabilize the situation in Rostov-on-Don. “It is difficult and is actually hampering the work of the civil and military authorities.”
