Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Sunday said that the ruling coalition had absolutely no idea of the quagmire it was in when it took charge of the government.

Addressing the All Parties Conference (APC) in Peshawar, the head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) said that the more a person tries to get out of the quagmire, the more he gets stuck in it.

Criticizing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Fazal said that the political power of the party has been exposed. “Unrest and target killing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is a major concern,” he added.

The PDM chief added that KP Chief Minister Mehmood Khan will have to be held accountable as the province owes Rs 900 billion.

He also demanded the provincial government to make efforts to restore peace in the tribal and urban areas.

He said that the recommendations of the APC will be sent to the government. “These recommendations will be placed before the National Security Committee (NSC).”

Further criticizing the opposition, Fazal said that there are talks of sinking the boat of the government.

The PDM chief said that the opposition was creating hurdles for the government, adding that the country did not default because of the efforts of the present government.

Talking about KP and Punjab, Fazal said that people there are deprived of their basic rights because the public resources of both the provincial governments are being spent on Imran Khan.

He said that the ousted prime minister wanted to “ruin the country” by returning to power, adding that the nation had no idea what these people [the former PTI government] had done to the country.

He claimed that while the federal government was taking steps to improve economic conditions, PTI was neither capable of long marches nor protesting.
