ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi has appointed Imran Khan as the parliamentary group leader of the party in the House.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan, who has been stripped of his membership of Parliament after his disqualification, cannot enter the House.
Sources in the National Assembly (NA) Secretariat said that Khan’s membership was revoked by the competent authority from the seat that admitted him to the House.
PTI resignations
Meanwhile, National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has received a letter from Qureshi for a meeting requesting approval of all resignations from PTI and appropriate time after deliberation. But will be answered.
Sources said that in the absence of any provision to accept the resignations of these blocs, such action cannot be allowed in the House.
Ashraf had already written to the members whose resignations were submitted on the same text. They were asked to appear before the Speaker individually to confirm their resignations but none of them turned up. However, the PTI MNAs did not bother to formally respond to this communication.
The legal wing of the Secretariat will discuss the validity of the resignations already submitted. Other related issues will also come up for scrutiny this week.
Sources say that if PTI members choose to come to the House, they will be welcomed, but in the case of resignation, they will have to wait for the Speaker’s decision and follow the relevant rules.
The party is still in the process of formulating its strategy to accept the resignations of its MNAs. The Speaker has the power to accept or reject them individually after the meeting, but he will decide according to the Constitution and the relevant law.
NA session
The next session of the National Assembly will begin on Tuesday evening. Sources say that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who did not attend the last three sessions of the National Assembly, may attend the session.
The House will legislate on Rekodic, which has already been approved by the Upper House of Parliament as per the demands of ruling coalition parties JUIF and BNP Mangal. Both parties had protested earlier legislation on the project and threatened to walk out of the government. After long negotiations, they reached an agreement and agreed on amendments to the law.
Accordingly, it was successively brought before both Houses of Parliament. Sources indicated that after the approval of the amendment, the meeting will be adjourned indefinitely. The joint session of both the houses of the Parliament will also be held tomorrow which will start two hours before the National Assembly.
Sources say that some important government legislation will be brought in the joint session in which PTI members of the Senate will also participate.
The PTI members in the Senate will protest in a joint session with the Leader of the Opposition in the Upper House, Dr. Senator Shahzad Wasim, over the arrest, ill-treatment and non-issue of production order of Senator Azam Khan Swati. PTI senators staged daily agitation in the last session which was adjourned last week.
‘Imran alien, stranger’: Pervez Ashraf
When contacted, Speaker Ashraf said that he would not accept the resignations of all the members, at the insistence of one person, who submitted their notifications in the same manner as they were individually when it was decided to consider their resignations. Members will be invited.
“Each member so coming will be inquired about their position and the circumstances that compelled them to leave home,” he added.
Asked about the letter written by Qureshi on Sunday evening, he said he would ask the PTI leader about his ability to request the resignations of all fellow members.
In response to a question about PTI Chairman Khan’s status as an MNA, he clarified that if he tried to enter the house, he would be shown the door, explaining that he was a stranger and a stranger. Because he is ineligible as a Member of Parliament. Member of National Assembly.
When contacted, Khan’s Chief of Staff Shibli Faraz was not available for comment.
