A District and Sessions Court of Islamabad on Monday indicted Shahnawaz Amir, the main suspect in the Sara Inam murder case, in the illegal arms case.

Islamabad Police arrested former journalist Ayaz Amir’s son Aamir on September 23 last year for allegedly killing his Canadian citizen wife in a farmhouse in the federal capital. Later, the police recovered an illegal Kalashnikov from his possession and registered another case against him.

Senior Civil Judge Muhammad Atif Jameel heard the illegal arms case against Aamir. During the proceedings, the accused denied the crime.

The court ordered the formal hearing of the case from February 20.

Court indicted Aamir in the murder case
In December last year, the court indicted Aamir and his mother Samina Shah in the Sara Inam murder case.

The charge sheet order was issued by Judge Atta Rabbani after he rejected Samina’s plea to be acquitted in the case.

Both the accused have confessed to the crime while the court summoned the prosecution’s witnesses on December 14.

Who was Sara Inam?
Sarah Inam, 37, was a Canadian citizen and a successful economist who worked with Deloitte and USAID at various points in her career. She was married to Shahnawaz just three months before she was killed.

She had a master’s degree from the University of Waterloo and was currently employed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the government sector, according to friends and family.

Sarah is survived by her father, mother and two elder brothers.
