ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Friday accepted the resignations of 35 more Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNAs, amid reports that President Arif Alvi is seeking a vote of confidence from Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. are ready for House of Parliament.
A total of 69 resignations were accepted this week after the PTI announced its return to the assembly and threatened to move a no-confidence motion against the prime minister.
“According to Clause (1) of Article 64 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, read with Rule 43 of the Rules and Regulations of the National Assembly of Pakistan, 2007, the Honorable Speaker of the National Assembly, Assembly of Pakistan, 11 April 2022 is pleased to accept the resignations of the following members of the National Assembly from the date the respective letters of resignation were submitted,” read a statement issued by the National Assembly Secretariat.

After accepting the resignations, the summary was sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to de-notify the PTI legislators.
Now, after accepting 80 resignations since July, the number of PTI MNAs in the assembly has reduced to 73, including disgruntled ones.

Around 131 MNAs belonging to the PTI resigned en masse after Imran Khan’s government was toppled by a no-confidence motion in April last year.
The Speaker of the National Assembly accepted the resignations of only 11 PTI legislators on 28 July 2022, while on 17 January he accepted the resignations of 34 more.
