After power politics continued between the ruling and opposition parties in the country, National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf on Tuesday finally accepted the resignations of 35 members of the lower house of parliament, who belong to the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Pakistan. It is from Pakistan. Insaf (PTI) as well as Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed.
Asad Qaiser, Qasim Suri, Parvez Khattak, Ali Amin Gandapur, Murad Saeed, Shehryar Khan Afridi and Imran Khattak are among the lawmakers whose resignations have been accepted.
The development comes in the wake of rising tensions between the PTI and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led government in the country.
The resignations of Hammad Azhar, Shafqat Mehmood, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Zartaj Gul, Ali Zaidi have also been accepted by the Speaker National Assembly.
It may be mentioned here that around 131 MNAs belonging to PTI resigned en masse after Imran Khan’s government was overthrown by a no-confidence motion in April last year.
‘ECP immediately de-notifies legislators’
Subsequently, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) de-notified 35 MNAs belonging to the former ruling party.
According to a notification issued by the Election Authority, “Consequent to the acceptance of the resignations of the Honorable Speaker, National Assembly of Pakistan and in pursuance of Notification No. F.21 (4)/2022- dated January 17, 2023,” the National Assembly of Pakistan The Assembly Election Commission of Pakistan hereby de-notifies the following members of the National Assembly of Pakistan with immediate effect.
PTI thanked the Speaker for accepting the resignation.
Reacting to the coalition government’s move, PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry thanked Speaker Pervez Ashraf for accepting the resignations of his party’s lawmakers.
Until the approval of another 70 resignations, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee belong to his party.
Fawad hopes that the Chief Justice of Pakistan will soon decide the pending cases of his party in this regard.
On 28 July 2022, the Speaker also accepted the resignations of 11 members of PTI under Article 64(1) of the Constitution of Pakistan.
According to the notification, the Speaker of the National Assembly had accepted the resignations of the following members of the Lower House last year.

- Shireen Mehrunnisa Mazari — Reserved Seat for Women (Punjab)
- Shandana Gulzar Khan — Reserved Seat for Women (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa)
