National Assembly (NA) Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Wednesday set up a special committee to probe the audio of former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar’s son — a PTI ticket candidate for the Punjab Provincial Assembly. Can be heard selling. The father had to work hard to get the ticket approved – according to an assembly notification.
The notification said that Muhammad Aslam Bhutani has been appointed as the chairman of the committee which includes Shahida Akhtar Ali, Muhammad Abu Bakr, Muhammad Burjees Tahir, Sheikh Rohail Asghar, Syed Hussain Tariq, Naz Baloch and Khalid Hussain Magsi.
The notification states that the committee may take the help of any investigative agency and submit its report to the National Assembly.
Last week, leaked audio purportedly shows two separate telephonic conversations between the former chief justice’s son and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) candidate from PP-137, Abuzar Chadhar, and an intermediate one between the two. The man Mian Uzair.
The trio can be heard allegedly talking about the recently released provincial assembly tickets by the PTI.
In the audio, Najam can be heard asking Uzair for Rs 12 million for the party ticket.
In one of the leaked audios, Najam Saqib allegedly asks Abuzar Chadhar to meet him to thank his father, while in another, he argues with Mian Uzair over money.
On April 29, the former Chief Justice confirmed in a statement that the voice in the audio call belonged to his son Najam.
“That’s my son’s voice in the leaked audio,” the former top judge said when asked if it was his son in the alleged call.
A day after the leak, the Imran Khan-led party launched an investigation into the matter.
