The suspect involved in the assassination of Pakistan’s Head of Mission Obaidur Rehman Nizamani in Kabul was arrested on Saturday, JEE News reported citing sources.
A day earlier, Nizmani escaped an assassination attempt after coming under attack targeting the head of mission at the embassy compound in Kabul. However, a security guard soldier Asrar Muhammad was injured in the attack while protecting the diplomat.
According to diplomatic sources, the suspect was residing on the eighth floor of a nearby building and had planted an improvised explosive device in three rooms of the same floor.
When the Afghan security personnel arrived at the building, the suspect tried to escape but was arrested.
Security officials also recovered an AK-47 rifle, a long-range automatic rifle, a sniper rifle and other weapons from the suspect’s possession.
Diplomatic sources further told JEE News that the police have also arrested another accused. Meanwhile, the security guard — who was injured in yesterday’s attack — has been shifted to Peshawar.
Pakistan has demanded the Taliban government to increase security.
Earlier today, Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Mohammad Sadiq said the government will provide resources to further enhance the security of our diplomats following the assassination of the Pakistani ambassador.
Sadiq said on Twitter that Pakistani security guard soldier Asrar Muhammad, who was injured in an attack to protect the head of mission in Kabul, was taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) last night in a special plane.

US wants a transparent investigation.
Meanwhile, US State Department spokesman Ned Price also called for a “thorough and transparent” investigation into the assassination of Pakistan’s mission chief in Kabul.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Office, it has been said that ‘by the grace and grace of Allah Almighty, the head of the mission is safe’.
Speaking at the press conference, Price said: “We offer our condolences and wish a speedy recovery to those affected by the violence.
“The United States is deeply concerned about the attack on a foreign diplomat and we demand a thorough and transparent investigation,” he added.
