A Russian man died in a shark attack on Thursday, while his girlfriend managed to escape a shark attack in Egypt’s Hurghada resort.
On the beach, tourists watched in horror as the beast mauled the man before dragging him down.
The tourist, said to be aged 23, had been holidaying in Egypt for a long time, possibly to avoid being involved in Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine.
He had recently moved into the resort with his father and was identified in Russia by the Baja news outlet as Vladimir Popov.
The man called out “Papa, Papa” as the hunter chased after him, and his father watched helplessly as the terrifying attack proceeded.
A witness said: “The shark is now eating his remains. He’s there, eating his remains.
Another said: “In front of my eyes, the shark ate the boy, and the girl managed to escape. She was hit by the shark. It’s a terrible thing. The remains of the man are lying there.”
Another woman simply repeated: “Oh my God, oh my God…” as she watched the unfolding horror.
When this incident happened, voices in the sea rang out: “Swim away, swim away! Hurry! A shark!”
The Russian Foreign Ministry has confirmed the death of a citizen from a shark attack.
An unidentified Russian female tourist said: “The rescuers reacted very quickly. I immediately realized it was a shark. I immediately jumped and started shouting, ‘Shark! Save yourself!'”
Another witness said: “It was about seven meters from the shore.”
An onlooker said: “The girl was rescued. She was screaming on the beach. She was so shocked, screaming. I don’t know where they took her.”
The incident reportedly took place at Dream Beach in Hurghada and Russian tourists are advised to exercise caution at the popular resort and follow staff warnings and prohibitions.
The incident occurred in June 2021 after a 37-year-old tourist was attacked by a shark at a Red Sea resort in Aqaba, Jordan, JEE News reported. The man suddenly started to graze the sea while parasailing.
Soon, a shark jumped out of the sea and bit off part of his leg, miraculously saving the visitor from being crushed under. He was viciously bitten, and the attack left him with severe injuries.
In another incident in Sahl Hasheesh, Egypt, a visitor was killed by a shark in July last year.
